Get Aboard The “Stewardship”

In this day and age with the confusion and stress of this world, it is becoming more important to get your finances in order. Practicing proper stewardship is an important task for Christians who want to follow God’s word. For a believer to effectively manage God’s money you will need to understand a few Biblical principles for finances.

Ownership

The first principle you will need to comprehend is that God owns everything  according to Psalms 24:1. He created the heavens and the earth so he owns it all. However, most Christians hold tight to their belongings and refuse to hand over the possessions to God. They get caught up in the world, by buying things on credit and looking good to their friends and neighbors, and failing to understand 1 Timothy 6:7 where it says that we brought nothing in this world and we will take nothing out of this world. Many Americans try it but never succeed.

Stewardship

Since its not our money, but God’s we are not owners but managers or stewards of His money. We must take our job of stewardship seriously and be diligent with money management. This means we need to start and manage a budget; work on eliminating debt; tithe to your church; and save for the future. A steward’s job is similar to an accountant for a corporation – its not their money but they are responsible for it. Well, in our lives, its not our money but we are responsible for it.

Accountability

We will be held accountable for ALL our actions here on earth – every person we talked to, every thought we had, every action we take, and every financial decision we make. He will want to know what we did with His money.

Pray For It

Since our responsibility is to manage His money, doesn’t it make sense to talk to the owner BEFORE you make any financial decisions. So I suggest you to: Pray for it BEFORE you Pay for it. In prayer God will give you guidance. Have you ever had buyers remorse? If so, I suggest that you made a hasty purchase decision. Next time, talk to the boss, and ask Him what you should do.

Contentment

In the Bible Paul says he has LEARNED the SECRET of contentment. Contentment is not a natural born action, you have to work at it. Living in materialistic America, contentment is harder than ever, but it is not impossible. Keep you eyes focused on God and not on worldly things on earth where moth and rust will destroy. Those that are content in their lives have an internal peace that God is in control of their life.

Remember: Every financial decision is a spiritual decision
